Cao Đài — the term means high palace or high tower — is the Supreme Being who, in this faith's account, previously taught through Buddha, Laozi, Confucius, and Jesus and now speaks directly because humanity is ready. He is never depicted as a figure, only as the Eye. The name was given, the tradition holds, in the first séance communications of 1925, when the spirit initially identified itself only as AĂÂ.
