Tenri-Ō-no-Mikoto, God the Parent, is understood as creator and as literal parent of all humanity without distinction of nation or religion — which is why Tenrikyo teaching addresses everyone rather than a chosen group. The Jiba at Tenri City is held to be the exact spot of human creation, marked by the Kanrodai pillar, and returning there is the tradition's central pilgrimage.
