Precept of Dudeism (The Church of the Latter-Day Dude)

Take it easy, and do not preach about it.

The second half does the work. Dudeism's only real prohibition is on evangelism, which it regards as the failure mode of every other religion and the one thing that would make its own advice self-defeating.

What it asksTake it easy. Do not be preachy about taking it easy

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The prohibition on preaching is the only real rule Dudeism has, and it is load-bearing. The church calls itself non-preachy on its own front page and treats evangelism as the failure mode of every other religion — and, more particularly, as the one thing that would make its own advice self-defeating, since nobody is taking it easy while trying to convert somebody. What follows is a body with no mission, no outreach, no growth target and a self-description as the slowest-growing religion in the world. It has never sought recognition from any state, which distinguishes it from every other line in this sweep, and its ordinations carry no legal weight almost anywhere. Dudeists regard both facts as evidence that the thing is working.

The whole instruction. The church describes itself on the same page as non-preachy and as the slowest-growing religion in the world.
