Mahavira's renunciation.
A prince walks out of the palace, gives away everything to the last garment, and spends twelve years in silence.
Mahavira renounced at thirty, and the Digambara account has him going naked and remaining so for twelve years of wandering, enduring insults and injury without retaliation, plucking out his hair rather than shaving. The sky-clad and white-clad split in Jainism is partly about whether that literal nakedness is required for liberation and, crucially, whether women can achieve it — Digambaras say no, Svetambaras say yes and hold that the nineteenth Tirthankara was a woman.
