History & overview · every faith gets one

The whole teaching, chanted: Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō.

The school of the fierce thirteenth-century reformer Nichiren: the Lotus Sūtra as the Buddha's complete teaching, and chanting its title — the daimoku — as the practice entire. Exiled twice, nearly executed once, never quiet.

The founding

A fisherman's son studied every school of Japanese Buddhism, concluded all had missed the point of the Lotus Sūtra, and announced it at dawn facing the Pacific — chanting Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō for the first time.

Its founding is bound to Nichiren — 1253 CE.

What it holds

Reality. Buddhahood latent in this moment, this life, this person.

The divine. No creator — the eternal Buddha of the Lotus Sūtra venerated.

Death and after. Rebirth, until awakening — buddhahood available in this life.
