History & overview · every faith gets one

The other Israel — the Torah kept on Mount Gerizim.

The Israelite tradition that never accepted Jerusalem: descendants of the northern tribes who hold that God's chosen mountain is Gerizim, not Zion. A community of hundreds today, still keeping the Passover sacrifice exactly as the Torah describes.

The founding

When the exiles returned from Babylon and rebuilt Jerusalem, the northerners who had remained were refused a share in the Temple — and kept their own sanctuary on Gerizim. Two Israels have kept two Torahs since.

No single founder — Samaritanism accreted rather than began.

What it holds

The divine. One God.

Death and after. Resurrection, and the day of vengeance and recompense.
