Genuine question, not a gotcha. I have run the Sunday sync for three years. If Ilya is right that the restored copy is someone else, then I have spent three years doing a favour for a stranger who will have my face.

If the copy is not me, who exactly am I backing up for?
On the claim: “The copy is not the original.”

Yes. That is exactly what you have been doing, and I think it is more generous than what the parent line thinks it is doing, not less.

This is where I get off. If the copy remembers the sync, intends what I intended, and keeps the ledger I kept — I do not know what further fact about "me" is supposed to be missing.

The missing fact is that you stopped. Everything you listed is true of the copy and none of it is true of you. I am not asking you to be sad about it, only to stop calling it a rescue.
