An it harm none, do what ye will.

The Rede compresses the ethics to one conditional — and the Threefold Law adds the accounting: whatever you send out returns three times over.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The Rede first appears in print in the 1960s and is usually attributed to Doreen Valiente. Its structure — a single conditional rather than a list — puts the burden of ethical reasoning on the practitioner in every situation, which admirers regard as maturity and critics as vagueness. Most working covens supplement it heavily in practice, particularly around consent, secrecy, and the use of magic on others without their knowledge.
