History & overview · every faith gets one
Armenian rite, Roman communion, and the same 1915.
The Armenian church in full communion with Rome, with a Catholicos-Patriarch of Cilicia whose convent is at Bzommar in Lebanon and whose see is in Beirut. It uses the Armenian Badarak and the Armenian calendar, and it lost clergy and people in the 1915 genocide on the same scale as the Apostolic church did.
The founding
Latin missionaries worked among Armenians from the Crusades onward, and a Catholic party formed in Aleppo and Constantinople. In 1740 Abraham Ardzivian was elected patriarch by Catholic Armenian bishops and confirmed by Benedict XIV in 1742; the Patriarchal Convent of Bzommar was founded in 1749. In 1915 the church lost seven of its bishops and most of its parishes in Anatolia.
Its founding is bound to Abraham-Pierre I Ardzivian, elected patriarch in 1740 and confirmed by Rome in 1742 — 1742 CE.
