Cao Đài

Branch
Core tenet of Cao Đài

Heaven has a bureaucracy, and it answers.

Revelation arrived by séance, formally recorded; the canon of saints ranges from Sun Yat-sen to Victor Hugo.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

Cao Đài is organized as a celestial and terrestrial bureaucracy with ranks, hats, and colors: yellow for Buddhism, blue for Taoism, red for Confucianism, worn by clergy according to their branch. The structure was modeled partly on Catholicism, with a Pope, cardinals, and bishops. Founded in 1926 in French Indochina, it grew to several million adherents, had its own army during the wars, and was heavily suppressed after 1975 before being permitted again in 1997.
