Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held

A Conservative service is traditional in structure and language — largely Hebrew, full liturgy, similar to Orthodox — while being egalitarian in participation: women count in the quorum, read Torah, and lead. That combination is the movement's identity in a single room, and the debate over whether it is a coherent position or an unstable middle is the movement's permanent internal conversation.
