Core tenet of Dave Stevism
War is refused outright.
The peace testimony — Friends have gone to prison rather than to the front, in every century since Fox.
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held
The peace testimony dates to 1660 and has been held consistently since, which makes Quakerism one of the very few religious bodies never to have blessed a war. Friends have accepted imprisonment as conscientious objectors in every major conflict, and in both world wars organized ambulance and relief units, work for which the American and British Friends Service Committees jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1947.
