Rite of Mandaeism
Masbuta — the weekly baptism.
Into the living river in white, three times under, marked with water — the soul rinsed of the week and reoriented toward the light.
⏱ weekly — Sunday◌ the community, in white
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held
The masbuta is full immersion in a flowing river, performed by a priest, repeated weekly and at every major life event — birth, marriage, before death, and after any serious pollution. It is not a once-in-a-lifetime initiation but continuous maintenance: the soul is oriented back toward the light each time. Priests wear white, and the ritual includes a sacred meal of bread and water afterward.
