Raëlism

Branch
Core tenet of Raëlism

There is no god and no soul, and that is the good news.

The movement is atheist by its own insistence. What survives death is the genetic code, which can be recorded and re-expressed — which is why cloning became the movement's public cause.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

Raëlism is unusual among new religions in being explicitly atheist and saying so in its recruiting material. There is no god, no spirit, no soul and nothing that survives the body. What can persist is information: the genetic code, which the Elohim are said to record at the transmission ceremony and which could in principle be re-expressed. This is why the movement founded Clonaid in 1997 and why it announced in December 2002 that a cloned child had been born. No evidence for that claim was ever produced, no child was ever presented, and the episode is generally read as publicity. The movement has not retracted it.
