Precept of Discordianism

The Pentabarf.

Five commandments discovered by the apostle Zarathud, including the requirement to eat a hot dog alone on a Friday in protest against the dietary laws of five other religions, and the prohibition on hot dog buns, which honours the Original Snub.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The Pentabarf was, according to the Principia, discovered by the apostle Zarathud, and the five commandments parody the form of a decalogue while emptying it of anything to obey. The third requires a Discordian, once during early illumination, to go off alone and eat a hot dog on a Friday — which offends the Catholic rule on Friday meat, the Jewish rule on pork, the Hindu rule on beef, the Buddhist rule on animal flesh, and the Discordian rule on buns, all in a single sandwich. The fourth prohibits the bun, in memory of the Original Snub. The first is a straight parody of the shahada and the shema. The fifth prohibits believing any of it. Taken together the Pentabarf is a working demonstration that a code can have the shape of law without any of its force, which is the Discordian view of most codes.
