The Mahanta, the Living ECK Master.

One man holds the office at a time — Twitchell to 1971, and Harold Klemp since 1981. Members write to him and report meeting him in dreams; he is the teaching's point of entry.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The Mahanta is an office rather than a man: the teaching holds that one person at a time carries the inner and outer mastership, and that the inner form is available to any initiate at any time regardless of geography. Twitchell held it until his death in 1971, followed by Darwin Gross, whose tenure ended in dispute, and Harold Klemp since 1981. Klemp writes and speaks at the annual seminar and members write to him; the correspondence is answered by staff, which the organisation states openly. Members describe meeting the Mahanta in dreams as the ordinary mode of contact.
