Community of Hinduism

Born into a web.

There is no conversion ceremony because there is no membership roll — one is born into communities, castes, and family deities, and carries them.

How you joinBy birth — into a family, a jati, a gotra, a village deity and a set of obligations
Who leadsNobody centrally; the family elders, the caste association, and whichever priest your family uses
The unitThe extended family and the jati, not a congregation — Hinduism has no membership roll and no weekly assembly
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

Hindu belonging is not something you opt into: it comes with family, region, caste, language, chosen deity, and the calendar of festivals your household keeps. There is no conversion ceremony in classical practice and no creed to affirm, which is why the tradition has historically had no category for heresy — only for wrong practice. It is also why counting Hindus is contested: the boundaries with Jain, Sikh, Buddhist, and folk traditions have always been porous at the edges of practice.
