Precept of Jediism

The Jedi Code.

Peace over emotion, knowledge over ignorance, serenity over passion, harmony over chaos. The Temple of the Jedi Order expands it into a Doctrine of tenets, maxims and teachings that its clergy are examined on before ordination.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The Jedi Code in its short form — peace over emotion, knowledge over ignorance, serenity over passion, harmony over chaos — is taken from the films and expanded by each organisation into something examinable. The Temple of the Jedi Order publishes a Doctrine with tenets, maxims and teachings that candidates for ordination are tested on. The content is recognisably Stoic with Buddhist borrowings: self-mastery, the refusal of anger as a motive, service to others, and the treatment of attachment as a source of harm. Jedi are frank that the material is assembled rather than revealed. What they dispute is the inference regulators draw from that — the Charity Commission treated the assembly as evidence against religious status, while Jedi point out that most traditions were assembled too, only earlier.
