Rite of The Rajneesh Movement (Osho)

Dynamic Meditation, at sunrise.

Five stages, one hour, done blindfolded in a hall of strangers. It is the movement's signature and the reason many people who never took sannyas know its name.

⏱ Daily, at sunrise◌ Anyone at the resort or a centre; blindfolds optional
What happensTen minutes of chaotic breathing through the nose, ten of catharsis, ten of jumping with the shout HOO, fifteen frozen in whatever position the body stopped in, fifteen of dancing
What it needsLoose clothing, a blindfold, floor space, and no one watching
What it aims atTo exhaust the body past the point where the mind can keep narrating
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held

The five stages run ten, ten, ten, fifteen and fifteen minutes: chaotic breathing through the nose, catharsis in whatever form arrives, jumping with arms raised on the shout HOO, a freeze at a signal in whatever position the body is caught in, and then dancing. It is done at sunrise, in a hall, with music, and the freeze is the point — everything before it is preparation for fifteen minutes in which nothing may be adjusted. Osho centres worldwide still run it daily and the Pune resort has done so since 1974. It is also the movement's most exported product; people who could not name Rajneesh have done Dynamic Meditation in a yoga studio.
