Precept of The Rajneesh Movement (Osho)

Nobody else is doing this to you.

The one demand under a teaching that made a virtue of dropping demands: your anger, your boredom and your devotion are your own production.

What it asksTake responsibility for your own state and stop assigning it to anyone else
Who it bindsInitiated sannyasins, by agreement rather than by vow
Where it bitesWhen the master contradicts himself on purpose, which he did constantly
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

For a teaching with almost no rules this is the closest thing to one. Rajneesh returned to it constantly: the emotion you are having is not being administered to you by your spouse, your childhood or the state, and treating it as though it were is how a person stays exactly where they are. Sannyasins describe this as the hardest part of the teaching in practice and the reason many left. It also has an awkward second edge, which former members raise: a doctrine that makes each person's state entirely their own responsibility makes it very difficult to name harm done by the community itself, and in Oregon that difficulty had consequences.
