Core tenet of Samaritanism
Mount Gerizim, not Jerusalem, is the place God chose.
The Samaritan Torah's tenth commandment names the mountain; everything else follows from the address.
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held
The Samaritan Pentateuch reads that God chose Mount Gerizim, where the Jewish text reads Jerusalem — a single textual difference that produced two religions. Samaritans hold that their version preserves the original and that the Judean priesthood altered it after the exile; Jewish tradition holds the reverse. Both communities have kept the disagreement for over two thousand years, and Gerizim remains the center of Samaritan life.
