Rite of Advaita Vedānta

Hear, reflect, absorb.

Shravana, manana, nididhyasana: hear the teaching that you are That, argue with it until it survives, then sit with it until it stops being information.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held

The three-stage discipline is precise: shravana (hearing the teaching from a qualified teacher), manana (reasoning until every objection is answered), and nididhyasana (sustained contemplation until the understanding stops being information and becomes the way things obviously are). The middle stage is what distinguishes Advaita from devotional paths — doubt is to be worked through rather than surrendered, and the tradition produced some of the sharpest philosophical literature in the world in the process.
