Kiirtan — Baba Nam Kevalam.
Three words, one tune, danced rather than sat through, and always before meditation rather than after. Anyone may join; no initiation is needed to sing.
Kiirtan is three words — Baba Nam Kevalam, roughly the beloved's name is all there is — sung to a simple tune with a drum, danced rather than sat through, and always placed before meditation rather than after. The step, lalita marmika, is deliberately easy. Ananda Marga treats this as functional rather than devotional: the mind is noisy, singing and moving settles it, and the sitting that follows starts from a better place. Anyone may join, initiated or not, which makes kiirtan the movement's open door in a system that otherwise keeps its meditation practice private.
