Core tenet of The Baptists
Baptism follows faith, by immersion.
The whole body under the water: burial and resurrection enacted, on a confession freely made.
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held
Baptists share believer's baptism with the Anabaptists but arrived at it separately, in early seventeenth-century England and Holland, and generally by immersion rather than pouring. The mode is doctrinally argued from the Greek word and from burial-and-resurrection symbolism. Baptists are now the largest Protestant family in the United States and, through missionary expansion, a substantial global presence.
