Rite of The Druze Faith
The khalwa.
Thursday night in the plain hall of seclusion: the Epistles read among the initiated, the uninitiated at home keeping the ethics.
⏱ weekly — Thursday evening◌ the initiated (uqqal)
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held
The khalwa is the Thursday evening gathering in a plain building with no ornament — a striking contrast to mosque or church architecture. The initiated meet for reading and discussion of the Epistles; the uninitiated may attend the earlier, social portion. The plainness is theological: a faith that holds God to be beyond description does not decorate the room where it meets.
