Soul does not need to be saved. It needs to travel.
Soul already exists and already is what it is. The problem is that it identifies with one body at a time; the practice is learning to leave and come back on purpose.
The premise is that Soul is not created, not fallen and not in need of rescue. What it needs is to stop being confined to one vehicle at a time. Eckankar teaches Soul Travel as a learnable skill: shifting attention from the physical body to the inner bodies and moving through the planes with the Mahanta as guide. Members describe results ranging from vivid dreams to full out-of-body experience and treat the variation as normal. The teaching's appeal is that it is checkable on the person's own terms — the practitioner is told to try it rather than to believe it — and its exposure is the same thing, since nothing is checkable by anyone else.
