Heathenry (Ásatrú)

Branch
Core tenet of Heathenry (Ásatrú)

Honor is the measure.

Right action is reckoned in courage, hospitality, truthfulness, and troth — the Nine Noble Virtues in some halls, plain decency in others.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

Heathen ethics is reputation-based rather than commandment-based: what survives a person is what people say about them, and the Hávamál says so explicitly. Various modern lists (the "Nine Noble Virtues") circulate, and are known within the community to be twentieth-century compositions rather than inherited codes. The core that is genuinely attested is narrower: keep your word, host well, repay both gifts and injuries, and do not be a coward.
