Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

Odin is god of wisdom, poetry, war, magic, and the runes, and he is not safe. He breaks oaths, chooses who dies in battle for his own purposes, and wanders in disguise testing hospitality. Many Heathens honor him at a careful distance for exactly these reasons, and some avoid dedicating to him entirely. His name is on Wednesday, and his ravens Huginn and Muninn — thought and memory — fly out each day and report back.
