Thor is the god of the common person: protector of Midgard, killer of giants, associated with thunder, rain, and fertility as much as with combat. Archaeology bears out the popular preference — hammer amulets are far more numerous than any Odin symbol, and they proliferated during the conversion era as a deliberate counterpart to the cross. Modern Heathens wear them for the same reason, and Thor is the god most new practitioners approach first.
