The fasts.

Coptic Christians fast over two hundred days a year, no animal products — the calendar itself is an ascetic.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held

Oriental Orthodox fasting is the most demanding in Christianity: Coptic Christians fast for over 200 days a year, abstaining from all animal products, with the Great Lent, the Fast of the Apostles, the Fast of the Virgin, and the Nativity Fast among them. The rigor is not treated as extraordinary — it is the ordinary rhythm of the year, and Coptic cuisine developed a substantial vegan repertoire in consequence.
