Raël says a craft descended beside the Puy de Lassolas outside Clermont-Ferrand and a small humanoid asked him to write down a message. Every claim the movement makes rests on that afternoon.

Vorilhon was thirty-one, editing a small motor-sport magazine, when he says he drove to the Puy de Lassolas on 13 December 1973 and met a craft and a small humanoid who spoke French. He says he returned on six consecutive mornings and wrote down what he was told, and that in October 1975 he was taken to the Elohim's planet. The two books are the whole canon. No corroborating evidence has been offered for either encounter and the movement does not present any; its position is that the embassy, if built, would settle the question in an afternoon.
