Haile Selassie I is divinity crowned.
The 1930 coronation read through scripture: King of Kings, Lion of Judah — held by many as God incarnate, by others as Jah's chosen king.
The divinity of Haile Selassie is the movement's most contested point, internally as well as externally. The Bobo Ashanti and many Nyabinghi hold him fully divine; the Twelve Tribes of Israel generally hold him as God's anointed king rather than God incarnate. Selassie himself, an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian, told interviewers he was a man. He also declined to correct his followers directly. His death in 1975 was, for some, disproving; for others, an illusion of Babylon.
