Bat mitzvah.
Kaplan's own daughter Judith read Torah in 1922 — the first bat mitzvah; now kept across nearly all of Judaism.
The first American bat mitzvah was Kaplan's daughter Judith, in 1922, and it was an argument as much as a ceremony: if Judaism is the civilization of a whole people, then half that people cannot be exempt from its obligations and its public roles. The practice spread from Reconstructionism through Reform and Conservative Judaism and is now near-universal outside Orthodoxy, which makes it Reconstructionism's largest influence far beyond its own small membership.
