Story of The Order of the Solar Temple

The Transit.

The order's name for the departure — a passage, not a death. Letters posted to journalists, scholars and relatives days before the October 1994 deaths set out the doctrine at length and are the reason so much of the internal teaching is on the record.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The word Transit is doing a great deal of concealment. In the order's teaching it meant a voluntary passage to a solar body on a world under Sirius, and letters posted to journalists, scholars and relatives in the days before October 1994 set the doctrine out in detail. What the Swiss investigation found was that the reality was three different things at once: some members genuinely chose it, a larger group were sedated and shot, and a small number were killed as traitors, including an infant, Emmanuelle Dutoit, killed at Morin Heights in September 1994. The doctrine was uniform; what happened to individual people was not.

From the sources — the passages this rests on; concise renderings, cited

Of the 1994 deaths: roughly fifteen were true suicides, about thirty were helped with sedatives and firearms, and seven were executed as traitors.

Andre Piller, Swiss investigating magistrate, as reported by the Centre for the Critical Study of Apocalyptic and Millenarian Movements (rendered)

At Cheiry, investigators concluded most of the dead had not been expecting to die at all but to be taken bodily in the Transit.
