Pursue Slack.

The only obligation. What follows from it is negative: do not take the job that eats you, do not mistake the Conspiracy's approval for your own, do not become normal. Ordination costs a fixed fee and confers the right to say all this to other people.

What it asksPursue Slack. Refuse the Conspiracy. Pay the fee
Who it bindsOrdained ministers, which is anyone who paid
Where it bitesBy whether you are working for someone else's ends
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The SubGenius code has one positive instruction and a long list of negatives that follow from it. Pursue Slack; refuse the Conspiracy; do not mistake its approval for your own; do not become normal. Ordination costs a published fee and confers the right to preach all of this to other people, which several thousand ministers do. The church has no discipline, no excommunication and no way of removing anyone, and it has never claimed the authority to. Where the code has bitten is from outside: in February 2006 a New York family court judge removed Rachel Bevilacqua's son from her custody after being shown photographs of her at an X-Day performance. The case ran nearly four years and ended with custody restored, on condition that SubGenius materials be kept out of the home.
