The choice of the twins.
In the beginning two spirits chose: one truth, one the lie. The point is not the twins — it is that choosing is the primal act, and it is now yours.
The Gathas — the hymns attributed to Zarathustra himself — present two primal spirits who make a choice at the beginning: one chooses truth, the other the lie, and each subsequent being chooses too. It is the earliest surviving text that makes moral dualism a matter of decision rather than of nature, and Zoroastrian theology has argued ever since about the relationship between the two spirits and Ahura Mazda — whether the hostile spirit is his opposite or the rejected twin of his creative one.
