Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held

Bai'at is the pledge of allegiance taken to the Caliph, accepting ten conditions covering conduct, worship, and loyalty. It is renewed collectively at the annual Jalsa Salana convention, where hundreds of thousands join hands in sequence with the Caliph. The Ahmadiyya Caliphate, established in 1908 and now based in London, is the only continuous caliphal institution in modern Islam, and it is the community's organizing spine.
