The night Mosul emptied. In June 2014 Islamic State took Mosul and marked Christian houses with the Arabic letter nun for Nazarene; by 18 July the ultimatum was convert, pay, leave or die, and on 6-7 August the Nineveh plain towns of Qaraqosh, Bartella and Karamles emptied overnight onto the road to Erbil.
