Placement marriage.

The prophet assigns spouses by revelation, sometimes to people who have not met. It is the practice at the centre of the church's theology and at the centre of the Texas prosecutions.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held

Placement marriage puts the choice of spouse entirely in the prophet's hands, as a matter of revelation rather than arrangement. A young woman may be told of her marriage days or hours before it happens, to a man she has not met, sometimes as an additional wife. Members understand consent as obedience to revelation, which is precisely the point on which the practice collides with the law: the Texas evidence in 2011 included marriages to girls aged twelve and fifteen. The FLDS holds the practice as necessary to exaltation. Women who have left have described both the theology and the mechanics in detail, and their accounts are the main public record of it.
