Rite of Quakerism (Religious Society of Friends)

Meeting for worship.

An hour of shared silence, broken only by vocal ministry — the emptiest liturgy in Christendom, deliberately.

⏱ weekly◌ everyone, equally
Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this rite is held

Meeting for worship has no order of service, no clergy, no music, and no scheduled readings. Friends gather, settle into silence, and wait. Vocal ministry, when it comes, is brief and is not responded to or debated; a period of silence follows each contribution. The hour ends when the designated Friends shake hands. Newcomers commonly report that the first twenty minutes are difficult and something changes after that.
