Story of The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God

Kashaku's vision, and the twelve apostles.

Paulo Kashaku reported visions from 1960; his daughter Credonia Mwerinde reported the Virgin at a rock cave in 1988. Kibwetere joined in June 1989 and appointed twelve apostles. New members read A Timely Message from Heaven repeatedly over four to six days before they were admitted.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

A Timely Message from Heaven is the movement's founding text and its recruitment instrument, and the reading requirement — four to six days, repeatedly, before admission — is unusual and revealing. This was not a movement that swept people up at a rally; it screened them slowly, in writing. Paulo Kashaku had reported visions from 1960, which gave the movement a claim to a lineage older than its leaders. Credonia Mwerinde, his daughter, had run a shop and a bar in Kanungu before 1988; Joseph Kibwetere was a respected figure, a school proprietor and a former parliamentary candidate. Several Catholic priests and nuns joined them, including Dominic Kataribaabo, who had a master's degree from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles.
