Expository preaching.
The sermon walks the text verse by verse — the pulpit as the room's center is Calvinist body language.
Reformed preaching is typically expository: working through a book of scripture passage by passage over months or years, rather than selecting texts by theme. The sermon is understood as a means of grace rather than as instruction, which is why the pulpit is elevated and central in the architecture. Sermons of an hour were normal historically and remain long by contemporary standards in conservative Reformed churches.
