The instrument is a matter of expedience; the pattern is not.
This is the position between the two siblings: the organ and the missionary agency are permitted because Scripture does not forbid them, while immersion for the forgiveness of sins, weekly communion and congregational elders are not negotiable because Scripture shows them.
The position on instrumental music is what makes this a third stream rather than a wing of either sibling. These congregations accept the Restoration hermeneutic — command, apostolic example, necessary inference — and reach a different conclusion about what silence implies: an unmentioned aid to a commanded act is an expedient, not an addition. The same reasoning permits missionary societies, church buildings, hymnals and projectors. What is not treated as expedient is the pattern itself: immersion of a penitent believer for the forgiveness of sins, weekly communion, elders and deacons in each congregation, and the absence of any clergy above the local church. The result reads to an outside visitor as a large conservative evangelical church that takes communion every week and takes baptism unusually seriously.
