The class meeting.
How is it with your soul? — the weekly examined life in company, Methodism's engine.
The class meeting was a weekly gathering of about a dozen people led by a lay leader, where each member answered searching questions about their spiritual condition, temptations, and behavior. Attendance was the condition of membership, not an option. It is arguably the most effective small-group discipleship system any Protestant movement has devised, and Methodism's decline is often traced by its own historians to the abandonment of it.
