More than 120 organisations, and no members in the religious sense.
You join a national body, not the belief. Nobody is asked to profess anything, and nobody is expelled for doubting.
Humanist organisation is federal and thin by design: individuals join a national body such as Humanists UK or the American Humanist Association, and those bodies affiliate to Humanists International, which reports more than 120 member organisations and associated groups. There is no initiation, no profession of belief, no membership roll of the saved and no mechanism of expulsion for doubt, which means membership numbers measure subscriptions rather than adherence — most people who hold the position belong to nothing at all. What the national bodies actually provide is infrastructure: celebrants, chaplains, school speakers, legal casework and lobbying. Funding is subscriptions, donations and legacies, and the celebrant fee income that sits alongside them is one of the few places where humanist bodies look institutionally like churches.
