the ethic — what it asks of a life
No opinion is a test of fellowship — which is easier to write than to keep. Thomas Campbell's proposition that human opinions must not be terms of communion is the Disciples' governing commitment, and it has cost them: it makes it hard to say anything as a body, and the General Assembly's resolutions bind nobody.
