Core tenet of Oriental Orthodoxy

The Word has one incarnate nature.

Miaphysis: divinity and humanity united without separation in Christ — the confession Chalcedon's language could not hold.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

The Oriental Orthodox churches — Coptic, Armenian, Syriac, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Malankara — rejected the Council of Chalcedon in 451 over how to describe Christ's divine and human natures. They hold one incarnate nature of the Word, united without confusion; Chalcedon defined two natures in one person. Modern theological dialogue has largely concluded that both sides meant the same thing in different vocabularies, and joint declarations since the 1970s have said so — but the churches remain separate after 1,500 years.
