Baptism in the Spirit is for every believer.
A second encounter beyond conversion — power for ordinary people.
Baptism in the Spirit is understood as a distinct experience subsequent to conversion, and classical Pentecostal denominations have held speaking in tongues to be its initial evidence — a position charismatics in older denominations generally do not require. The doctrine gives the movement its expectation that religious experience should be palpable rather than merely believed, which is much of the reason for its growth in contexts where established churches felt remote.
