Angra Mainyu — the lie.

The destructive spirit, source of every corruption: a real adversary, but a doomed one — the war ends, and he loses.

Understanding it — context, not catechism: how this passage is held

Angra Mainyu is the destructive spirit — the origin of decay, disease, deceit, and death — and the tradition is careful about his status: he is not a creator and makes nothing, he only spoils. His defeat is certain and scheduled, which distinguishes him from a truly equal power. Much of the later devil imagery in Western religion has a family resemblance to him, and the historical contact through the Persian empire is the reason scholars keep returning to the comparison.
