The Quran.
For Muslims, God's speech verbatim — recited before it was ever a book.
The Quran is understood as God's uncreated speech in Arabic, which makes translation a category different from scripture in most other faiths: a rendering into English is called an interpretation of the meanings, not a Quran. It is arranged roughly by length rather than chronology, which is disorienting for first readers, and it presumes familiarity with the biblical narratives it references rather than retelling them. Memorizing the whole is a recognized vocation — a hafiz — and the recited form is primary.
